If you’re an HGTV watcher, you’re probably already aware of their huge giveaway contest and the role Austin plays in it. For those of you who aren’t, we’ll fill you in. Each year, HGTV gives away a high-tech, energy efficient “Smart Home” that their experts have built and furnished. Last year, the giveaway house was located in Nashville, TN. This year, the giveaway is in our very own city of Austin.
According to HGTV professional house planner Jack Thomasson, Austin was an obvious choice because of its friendly culture, excellent nightlife, and reputation as a hub for emerging technology.
Valued at $1 million, the “modern farmhouse” styled home was built by Austin home builder Scott Turner of Riverside Homes. The house spans 2,300 square feet and contains 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Even better, it’s located just south of Zilker Park in a thriving, historic neighborhood (not to worry – the home’s construction complied with city ordinances to protect the classic character of Austin’s neighborhoods). With its subtly modern yet classic look, you’d never know that the house was filled with intuitive technology! The Smart Home is fully furnished with only the best interiors, and although it’s previously been used for staging and HGTV videos, it’s now ready for move-in (note: the house isn’t open to the public to walk through, but some of these photos can give you a sneak peek!). - Energy efficient windows designed to block light and reduce heat, lowering energy bills

The house is fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and received a 4-star ranking from the Austin Energy Green Building program. In addition to the smart house, the giveaway winner will receive a 2015 Mercedes Benz C-Class and $100,000 from Quicken Loans.
