HISTORY OF NORTHWEST AUSTIN
Back in the 1800s, it took a full day for the earliest settlers to get from Northwest Austin to downtown, a far cry from the 15 minute drive of today. As a handful of the neighborhood names up here may indicate, the majority of the land in this area was initially used for horse and cattle ranches. The families who lived on the ranches were typically classic Texan cowboys. The first houses in the northwest were built from the late 1960s to the 1980s and in neighborhoods like Steiner Ranch, you’ll notice that the street names honor famous Texas Rangers. The growth and development in this area continued throughout the next few decades with the additions of community centers, schools, restaurants, and golf clubs.
NORTHWEST AUSTIN REAL ESTATE MARKET
The homes built around here are newer and larger compared to other parts of Austin. This is a desirable region of the city to live in, so home prices are on the higher end of the spectrum. The serene, laid back environment is a good fit for families, retirees, or people who don’t particularly want to live in downtown Austin. This is also the perfect location for people who love the lake, as many of the homes are just steps away from the water’s edge.
ATTRACTIONS
Northwest Austin has some of the best access to top rated golf courses and activities on the lake! On a nice day, you’ll see dozens of Austinites lounging at the marinas with their boats.
