Pflugerville was settled around 1850 by a German immigrant named Henry Pfluger, Sr. He and his family arrived in the US for a fresh start after losing their successful farm in the Prussian War. They bought 160 acres of land and lived in a log cabin while harvesting wheat, rye, sweet potatoes, and sugar cane. The city was officially founded in 1860 when William Bohl opened a general store and post office and named the city after its first settler. Over a century later, the city has around 50,000 residents. Much of this growth has happened in the years since the 1990s when Austin saw a boom in population growth. As the city of Austin grew and continued to be built up, so did Pflugerville.
