HISTORY OF SOUTHWEST AUSTIN
Settlers arrived in Southwest Austin around the 1830s but the communities didn’t start truly growing until the late 1800s. The southwest neighborhood of Oak Hill was actually known as Live Oak Springs until 1870 when a local post office called Oak Hill was established, leading to the eventual adoption of the name. A great deal of the population growth in this area happened in the later decades of the 1900s and has only continued to pick up from there. Today, Southwest Austin is a vibrant, diverse community punctuated by towering oak trees and beautiful homes.
