HISTORY OF LEANDER
Leander (originally a town called Bagdad) was officially established in July of 1882. The first European settlers arrived there around 1845 after receiving bounty land grants for their service in the Texas Revolution. Over the next few decades, the city became more developed as businesses, blacksmith shops, and a post office started springing up. Farming was still the backbone of the town during this time. In the 1880s the railroad arrived in Leander, and although settlers feared it would disrupt their peaceful life, eventually they began moving their businesses closer to the tracks. The city was mostly rural up until the 1980s. From the 1990s forward, Leander has seen tremendous growth and now has a population estimated at 30,000.
