Celebrities That Live In Austin, Texas

Austin, Texas residents have surely noticed the huge influx of people moving to the city. Willie Nelson 

Willie Nelson, a native Texan, was born just a couple of hours outside of Austin in the small town of Abbott. Today, when it’s time for the “On The Road Again” artist to head home, he heads to his 800-acre property in Spicewood, approximately 45 minutes away from Austin. Residents of Austin probably find it no surprise that Mr. Nelson lives in the area, considering that there’s been a bronze statue of the singer-songwriter in Downtown Austin since 2012. 

Matthew McConaughey 

Matthew McConaughey is another Texas Native that calls the Austin Area home. McConaughey was born in Uvalde, Texas, and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin.  In 2012, Matthew acquired a 10,000 square foot estate outside of Austin in the Rivercrest area where he still resides with his wife and children. If you didn’t think Matthew McConaughey liked the Austin area already, in 2019 he became a minority owner of Austin FC, Austin’s Major League Soccer team that had their first season in 2021. Matthew is a huge fan of the Texas Longhorns, can be seen on the sidelines of their football games, and holds the position of “Minister of Culture” at the university. You could say Austin is just alright, alright, alright for Matthew McConaughey. 

Joe Rogan 

Joe Rogan’s move to Austin was one that was heavily publicized due to the ever-growing popularity of his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. Considered a controversial individual by many, this comedian turned media giant purchased a $14.4 million dollar mansion outside of Austin when he decided to make the move from Los Angeles. Since his move, he’s relocated the headquarters of his podcast to the city of Austin as well. On his podcast, Joe Rogan has been a staunch supporter of those fellow celebrities that wish to make the move from the glitz-and-glamour of places like Los Angeles and New York City to the more down-to-earth city of Austin. 

Elon Musk 

While Elon Musk hasn’t officially moved to Austin, his company, Tesla Motors, has purchased a $1.1 billion plot of land for their new “Giga” manufacturing facility near the city. Additionally, Elon Musk has announced plans to build a so-called “Solar Neighborhood” in Easton Park, a residential community within the city of Austin. As if Mr. Musk doesn’t seem busy enough in and around Austin, one of his other ventures, The Boring Co. has reportedly purchased land east of Austin through a separate business entity. Elon Musk has yet to announce the purchase of a permanent residence in the city of Austin. It’s safe to say that if Elon Musk doesn’t already have a home In Austin (let’s face it, he probably does), then he will much sooner than later. 

Mark “The Undertaker” Calaway 

Mark Calaway, better known by his ring name “The Undertaker”, is a retired professional wrestler and Texas native that resides in the city of Austin. The Dead Man was born in Houston but has lived in Austin for just about as long as he’s been a professional wrestler. Over his 35-year professional wrestling career, The Undertaker has made somewhat of an investor of himself when he’s not in the ring, as he’s reported to have multiple additional investment properties in and around the city of Austin.  

Sandra Bullock 

Known for her roles in movies like The Blind Side, Speed, Gravity, and a number of other TV and movie performances, Sandra Bullock is an Austin resident who continues to split her time between Texas and Los Angeles. Sandra Bullock is one of the most well-known Austinites, as she owns “Waltons Fancy & Staple” a rustic-chic bakery, deli, and flower shop in Downtown Austin.
