white van As real estate agents, we have the opportunity to meet some amazing people from all over the country that want to call Austin home. We recently had the chance to help Pro BMX rider Taj Mihelich sell his East Austin home so he could travel the country for the next three months. (That's his new traveling home on the right!) Pauly+Presley agent, Adam Zell, has known Mihelich for two years and has been helping with his real estate needs.

Mihelich recently reached out to Pauly+Presley to help him sell his East Austin home that he had remodeled with a little help from his friends. For an added plus, Mihelich took the time to chat with us and tell us about his experience in Austin and working with the Pauly+Presley team.

What areas have you lived in in Austin and what are you favorite aspects of each?

Taj Mihelich:  I lived a little of everywhere in Austin. Near campus/Hyde Park was cool and easy. Felt like my neighbors were always very transient though. College kids coming and going. Down South was quiet but boring. I mostly lived East and I loved that. Lots of cool artists and studios mixed with real people just getting by. Also, from East you can ride bikes to downtown more easily than anywhere else in the city. No hills and lots of bike lanes.

Where are your favorite places in Austin to ride? Best BMX parks?

Taj Mihelich: When I moved here 20 years ago, the 9th street jumps (9th and Lamar) were already going. They're still here and still my favorite. There's countless places to ride BMX now in Austin, but 9th is still a completely unique spot in the world. Volunteer maintained dirt jumps right downtown? No other city but Austin could pull that off.

What's your experience been like working with Pauly + Presley Realty?

Taj Mihelich: Truly great. I sold a condo with their help a few years ago and it went fast and easy. Selling my house recently was even easier. Something like seven offers at way more then I'd hoped for in the first day! The guys I've worked with there (Brad and Adam) are great.

taj with his bikeCan you share any East Austin favorites? Food, bar, park, etc?

Taj Mihelich: I lived off Tillery and there was a great soccer field/park my dogs loved to play in. The new greenhouse at Tillery and Lyons is amazing, and as a cyclist, taking Tillery down to the end and hopping on the hike and bike trail into downtown is a dream. Starting my day of work with a nice peaceful ride along the river is a treat. East 6th Street bars are my speed too. Rio Rita if I want to work and Liberty, Grackle or Yellow Jacket if I want to see friends.

Why did you decide to live in Austin?

Taj Mihelich: I moved to Austin in '93 to pursue a career as a pro BMXer. I quite literally left Michigan one winter and decided I would drive south 'til I found warm weather where I could ride year round. It got warm in Austin and its worked out ever since.

Mihelich is out traveling the country now and you can follow his adventure on Instagram. We hope he finds his way back to Austin soon!
