The East Riverside neighborhood of Austin has seen an abundance of new inhabitants and growth in recent years, and it’s easy to see why. New attractions and amenities in the area, paired with its excellent proximity to downtown Austin, have made it a popular place of residence for both new tenants and long-time locals alike. And with many new developments on the horizon, East Riverside is only getting bigger, and better.

In this post, discover what makes this part of Austin such a great place to live and read up on some of the most anticipated developments that Riverside has to offer.

What Makes Apartments on Riverside So Great

It’s clear why so many people want to live on Riverside. With no shortage of dining destinations and entertainment options, you’ll find everything you need to live comfortably in the neighborhood’s 3-mile radius. Riverside features a healthy mix of music venues (like Emo’s), restaurants (like Baby A’s), grocery stores (like an H-E-B Plus!) and strip malls, as well as numerous parks and trails.

There are also many ways to conveniently get out of town, as well. Austin Bergstrom International Airport is only eight minutes from Riverside and you can drive to East Austin in less than three minutes across Pleasant Valley Road. It’s also just two miles from Austin’s trendy South Congress district, and, of course, downtown Austin just a short five-mile drive away.

Like walking, hiking, biking, or sight-seeing? Lady Bird Lake is among the best trails in Austin—featuring a 10.1 mile trail that loops around the lake. And its Boardwalk Trail—recently opened in 2014—features both amazing scenery and great views of the downtown Austin skyline. Talk about a win-win!

Future Riverside Apartment Real Estate Projects in Development

Project Catalyst

According to permitting and rezoning applications filed through the City of Austin, Project Catalyst—a 97 acre mixed-use development project—is planned to go up at the intersection of East Riverside and Pleasant Valley Road. Once completed, it will be the home of nearly 5,000 apartment units and over 400,000 square feet of retail space.

Riverside Place

Looking for an all-in-one shopping destination that’s close to home? Riverside Place—in East Riverside—might just be the place. Spanning 10.24 acres and located near the intersection of East Riverside Drive and Pleasant Valley Road, the project will be zoned mixed-use, and become a popular place to live, full of both Riverside apartments and multi-family homes, as well as office and retail locations.

River Park

River Park is one of the talked about (and most anticipated) developments on this list—for good reason. The 109-acre, 10-million square foot development could easily become a major hub for residents along Austin’s southeast waterfront. Planned as a transit oriented development (or TOD), it has a future public transit station in the works, as well as a 370-unit residential complex. Paired with the potential for thousands of square feet of retail and office space, it’s bound to be a must-see destination for nearly all Austinites.

Want a place to work and play?

Oracle’s new lakefront campus (sitting across 27 acres) is set to bring over 10,000 jobs to the area, and with the many aforementioned real-estate developments coming soon, there are plenty more jobs to come!
